About Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) at Our Atlanta-area Practice

A common proverb says "the eyes are the mirror of the soul." Your eyes are one of the most communicative features; they truly do say a lot about you. Heavy eyelids and bags under the eyes make you look tired and aged. As people age they tend to develop excess skin above their upper eyelids and bags beneath their lower eyelids. This is partly due to gravity, loss of skin elasticity and fat deposits that may settle over time in these areas. Fortunately, Dr. Burke Robinson can perform eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, to rejuvenate the eye area. He has performed eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for patients from throughout the Atlanta area at his offices in Alpharetta and Dunwoody.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

The eyelid surgery procedure can be performed on the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both, depending on the patient's needs.

"Eyelid surgery is a simple procedure providing the single most dramatic change one can get with cosmetic surgery," said Dr. Robinson, who has performed over a thousand eyelid surgical procedures during his career.

"Additionally, the incisions are hidden in the natural crease of the upper lid and typically just inside the rim of the lower eyelid. The patient can return to work in just a few days and no one really knows why this person looks so rested and radiant," Robinson continued.

Eyelid Surgery Consultation

A consultation is necessary to evaluate the patient. The initial consultation is a private time between you and Dr. Robinson that commonly involves questions for the physician, looking at before-and-after photographs of the procedure you are considering and viewing computer imaging of your own photographs that can help you personalize the changes you desire.

Eyelid Surgery and Insurance Coverage

Although a blepharoplasty is commonly perceived as a cosmetic procedure, it may be covered under insurance if the drooping skin above the eyes is perceived by an ophthalmologist as interfering with your vision. A visual fields test and general eye exam is a precertification requirement by most insurance companies.

"I would like to say that I am very pleased with the outcome of my eyelid surgery.  Not only does Dr. Robinson do great work, but his office staff is the nicest and most accommodating I have encountered.  I actually call on physicians professionally and would highly recommend Dr. Robinson to friends and family."
