Facial Plastic Surgery

Atlanta-area Lower Eyelid Surgery – Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery in Alpharetta and Dunwoody

By limiting his practice only to facial procedures, Dr. Burke Robinson has perfected the art of improving the delicate contours of the face and bringing all of the features into balance. After treatment at Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery, our patients do not have the unnatural stretched look that, in other patients, often betrays the fact that they have had "work done." Rather, Dr. Robinson’s techniques produce subtle, soft results that bring forth the existing beauty of each patient. Dr. Robinson applies this approach to a variety of facial procedures, including lip enhancement and laser skin resurfacing, at his offices serving Atlanta, Alpharetta, Duluth, and all of Georgia.

Lip Enhancement

Full and sensuous lips have always been a hallmark of youth and beauty, but in recent years, it has become an even more important feature. More and more people desiring fuller lips have chosen lip augmentation to enhance the lips’ natural curvature. Lip enhancement can reduce the prominence of fine lines in the lip area and restore a youthful and supple look to the mouth.

At your personal lip enhancement consultation, Dr. Burke Robinson will listen to your goals for treatment and discuss the results that may be achieved. At Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery, lip enhancement is performed using the fillers Restylane®, Perlane®, or JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel. Based on your description of your desired results, Dr. Robinson will recommend one of these injectables.

Should you choose to proceed with treatment, the recommended filler will be injected into your lips by Dr. Robinson in precise locations. Because this procedure is non-surgical, lip enhancement patients experience a shorter recovery time than patients who choose more invasive cosmetic procedures. Regardless, the results are comparably excellent – lip enhancement patients often look visibly younger and more attractive than before the procedure. Dr. Robinson has provided lip enhancement to many patients in the Atlanta area. At his offices in Alpharetta and Dunwoody, Dr. Robinson can consult with you about your lips and create a treatment plan designed to make the most of your natural facial beauty.

Chin Augmentation

When analyzing the beauty of a face, most patients recognize the importance of a well-defined chin to overall facial harmony. A chin with good proportions not only balances the face, but also improves the profile. By simply enlarging the chin when it is too weak, it is possible to improve the patient’s overall facial appearance a great deal. In addition to performing the procedure by itself, Dr. Burke Robinson occasionally recommends chin augmentation for his rhinoplasty patients in order to improve facial proportions.

Chin augmentation is a straightforward procedure that involves the placement of an implant through a tiny incision (about one-half inch) made just under the chin. Various sizes and shapes of chin implants are available that are designed to look and feel like natural tissue. Once the implant has been placed by Dr. Robinson, fine absorbable sutures are used to close the incision, allowing the chin to heal. After approximately five to seven days, most patients are able to resume normal activity.

Dr. Robinson has made the study of facial proportions and facial beauty his life’s work and can accurately assess whether or not chin augmentation will be beneficial to your overall look. With the assistance of digital imaging, Dr. Robinson works with his patients to demonstrate the potential change in which chin implants can result; patients are frequently surprised and delighted with the ability to see what they may look like with the implants. We encourage patients interested in chin augmentation to contact the Atlanta-area offices of Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery to schedule a preliminary consultation with the doctor.

Cheek Augmentation

Cheek implants give you a more youthful and aesthetically balanced face. The cheek augmentation procedure gives fullness to flat cheekbones. In middle-aged patients, cheek implants can improve the mid-facial contour and restore sagging mid-facial soft tissues, thus postponing the need for a facelift. The incision is most often hidden inside the mouth. The procedure is typically done as an out-patient procedure.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

One of the most dramatic impacts aging has on the face is caused by changes in the expression projected by the eyes. Though the eyes themselves may be unchanged, the skin surrounding the eyes, including the upper eyelids, can fold over and create a tired or unhappy facial appearance. Fortunately, this can be remedied with upper eyelid surgery, a relatively inexpensive procedure with the potential to improve the aesthetics of the face dramatically.

Dr. Robinson recommends upper eyelid surgery for patients who feel that their excess eyelid skin detracts from the beauty of their overall look. It is a relatively minor surgical procedure involving very little downtime. Recovering patients usually only take pain medication for one to two days after surgery, and stitches are removed a week later.

Dr. Robinson notes that patients are extremely pleased with the results of their upper eyelid surgery because of the significant aesthetic impact that refreshed and youthful-looking eyes can have on the face. For an even greater cosmetic improvement, patients may opt to combine this procedure with a browlift, facelift, or laser skin resurfacing to reduce wrinkling in the eye area. Lower Eyelid Surgery

Like drooping lids above the eyes, bags and puffiness in the under-eye area caused by aging and genetics can affect the expression projected by the eyes, creating a worn out and tired appearance even when you feel alert and refreshed. While some fat and skin tissue in the eye sockets is necessary to cushion and protect the eyeballs from the bony eye socket rims, excess tissue in these areas can make a person appear much older and more tired than he or she actually is. In such cases, Dr. Burke Robinson can improve the patient’s appearance by delicately removing tissue through surgery without any external incisions.

It is very important to trust only a very experienced facial plastic surgeon when it comes to operating near your eyes. Dr. Robinson has over 20 years of experience and is double board-certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery). This fact means that Dr. Robinson is not only qualified as a facial plastic surgeon, but also intimately familiar with the functions of the tissues and organs of the face, including the eyes. Facelift

New techniques have made the results achieved through facelift surgery more natural-looking than ever. These advancements eliminate the need for surgeons to pull the skin tight, a method that tends to create an unnaturally taut look. Instead, Dr. Burke Robinson performs facelifts by gently lifting and re-draping the skin through two incisions hidden in the ear canal, behind the ear, and into the hairline.

Facelifts are highly individualized procedures, so it is important to choose a facelift surgeon who understands the look you want for your face. Dr. Robinson believes that patients considering facelift surgery should look like themselves after treatment, only more rested and refreshed. To meet these goals, Dr. Robinson consults with each patient and discusses the options available in order to make sure that facelift surgery is the appropriate treatment for the patient’s needs. It is possible that a patient who thinks that she needs a facelift could actually benefit more from an endoscopic mid facelift or laser resurfacing.

To learn more about facelift surgery, Dr. Robinson recommends that you seek customized care from an experienced plastic surgeon who performs only face procedures. By doing so, you can be sure that the surgeon has adequate experience and training in techniques that will allow him or her to alter your facial tissues only in the ways that will achieve the most subtle, natural results. Endoscopic Mid Facelift

The endoscopic mid facelift procedure uses advanced techniques to address sagging areas of the face that previously could not be aesthetically improved with cosmetic surgery. True to its name, this procedure lifts the middle area of your face, the area housing muscles that often betray signs of age earliest. The jowls and sagging cheeks can be lifted for a younger appearance. You may find it helpful to put your index fingers at your cheek bones and gently lift upward and outward to get a glimpse of your possible results from endoscopic mid facelift surgery.

This procedure is called "endoscopic" because Dr. Robinson uses a tiny fiber optic lens known as an endoscope to achieve the best results. This lens is connected to a camera and a television monitor through which Dr. Robinson is able to view the internal tissues and carefully make adjustments. The advantage of using the endoscope is small incisions approximately a half-inch long are used to insert the scope to the area being worked, without any shaving or cutting of hair. This results in tiny scars hidden in the scalp hair. If sagging around your nose, cheeks, and mouth has proven detrimental to your appearance, Dr. Robinson invites you to consult with him at one of his Atlanta-area offices. Rhinoplasty

Any change in the shape of a major facial feature must be approached carefully and discussed thoroughly between doctor and patient. For nose surgery, this is especially true – rhinoplasty affects the face’s dominant feature and is one of the most difficult procedures for a plastic surgeon to perform. Dr. Burke Robinson has over 20 years of experience in performing rhinoplasty surgery and has the extensive technical and artistic skill necessary to restore balance to the face.

In addition to educating his patients and answering any questions that they may have during the consultation, Dr. Robinson employs a video imager to help illustrate the types of results possible. Dr. Robinson works extensively with his patients to give them an accurate picture of what they will look like after surgery. Depending on the patient’s needs, a number of changes can be made.

Dr. Robinson has experience in reducing and increasing the overall size of the nose, changing the shape of the tip or bridge, changing the size of the nostrils, and altering the angle between the nose and the upper lip. Depending on the current state of your nose, however, certain changes may be easier to achieve through surgery than others. And, as a plastic surgeon board-certified in otolaryngology (the branch of medicine dealing with the ear, nose, and throat), Dr. Robinson is especially skilled at upholding the function of the nose during rhinoplasty. While some surgeons who do not possess Dr. Robinson's skill or certifications may ultimately sacrifice function for appearance, Dr. Robinson is able to create a nose that is both beautiful and functional. At a rhinoplasty consultation, Dr. Robinson can learn more about your aesthetic goals and inform you of what can and cannot be accomplished through nose surgery. Browlift

Browlift surgery raises a drooping brow and restores youthful smoothness to the forehead area. Horizontal lines and deep furrows can be much improved by this procedure, provided that it is performed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon such as Dr. Burke Robinson. If aging in the forehead region has caused you to look permanently sad, angry, or tired, browlift surgery is often the most effective option for cosmetic improvement.

The results of browlift surgery can be demonstrated at home in the mirror. Placing your hands above your temples, gently lift the skin upwards. In most cases, furrows and lines will become much less severe and the brow will have an overall refreshed look. Reviewing before-and-after photos may also help you to understand what can be achieved with a browlift.

Dr. Robinson also improves the eyes’ appearance with this surgery. By properly lifting the forehead, he opens the entire eye area, reducing the effects of a heavy, drooping brow. Because of this effect, the browlift often produces results similar to those available through upper eyelid surgery. The browlift procedure is performed endoscopically, thereby avoiding hair loss, scalp numbness, and long, wide scars that are associated with the traditional coronal browlift. To determine which of these surgeries would result in the best improvement for you, we recommend that you consult with Dr. Robinson himself one of his Atlanta-area offices serving Duluth, Alpharetta, Dunwoody, and all of Georgia. Otoplasty

Otoplasty, or corrective ear surgery, is performed on more children than adults and corrects one of the only physical abnormalities that cries out for cosmetic surgery. Children with protruding ears, or "lop" ears (where the tip of the ear fold over), are often victims of cruel nicknames like "Radar" or "Dumbo," which can lead to poor self-esteem, poor social skills, and low classroom participation.

"The sooner, the better for corrective ear surgery," says Dr. Burke Robinson. "Better to correct the defect before psychological damage from peer ridicule occurs."

An incision is placed in the crease behind the ear. Dr. Robinson then removes the necessary amounts of cartilage and skin required to achieve the right effect. In some cases, he may need to trim the cartilage, shaping it into a more desirable form and then pin the cartilage back with permanent suture to secure the cartilage. In other instances, he does not remove any cartilage at all, using stitches to hold the cartilage permanently in place. After sculpting the cartilage to the desired shape, Dr. Robinson uses sutures to anchor the ear until healing occurs to hold the ear in the desired position.

A soft, thick dressing is placed on the head for one day. When the dressing is removed the ears will be somewhat swollen. A soft headband is worn at night to protect the ears. The patient can return to school or work in less than a week and full activity (including sports) in approximately two weeks.

"Thank you so much for your help, talent and patience.  My daughter’s ears look perfect and I can already see a big difference in her personality.  She hasn’t worn a hat in months and she loves for me to pull her hair up in a pony-tail!!   You and your staff have been so kind and thoughtful.  Thank you so much!!"

Injectables

As the body ages, some of the fat and collagen needed to maintain a firm and healthy appearance is lost. This natural process affects various parts of the body in different ways, but nowhere is it more noticeable than in the face. The breakdown of underlying tissues can create a hollow look, produce lines between the nose and mouth, or cause the lips to take on a shrunken appearance.

Today, a variety of injectable fillers are used by plastic surgeons to address these cosmetic issues without surgery. Dr. Burke Robinson has years of experience with the various types of fillers available and prefers to use Restylane®, JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel, or Sculptra™. While it is not a filler, BOTOX® injections may be appropriate for patients who have lines and wrinkles caused by overactive facial muscles. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a popular option, but Dr. Robinson recommends that patients interested in it or injectable fillers have consultations prior to treatment to ensure that their chosen procedures will meet their expectations and improve their appearance in the ways they had planned. Lower-lid Liquid Lift

This hot new application for facial fillers, the Lower-lid Liquid Lift, was advanced by double board-certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Burke Robinson. The treatment restores youthfulness to the eyes with use of a dermal filler like Sculptra®, Restylane® or JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel to volumize and support this under eyelid area alleviating the hollow, tired appearance caused by dark circles and fine wrinkling of the skin of the lower eyelids.

Often, dark circles are the result of fat bulging in the lower eyelid that is exaggerated by loss of volume below this area that creates a hollowed area called the "tear trough". By placing the dermal filler into this "tear-trough" area there is less shadow and therefore improvement in dark circles, making you look more youthful and rested.

This new non-surgical treatment is popular for several reasons as people continue to look for low down time procedures that offer immediate results. The treatment is non-surgical, affordable and can be scheduled during your lunchtime break.
