Sculptra® is an injectable dermal filler designed to reduce facial lines and wrinkles for an enhanced cosmetic result. It is also designed to increase skin thickness and enhance facial volume to treat lipoatrophy, the loss of facial volume often associated with HIV and AIDS. When used to treat lipoatrophy, some insurance plans will cover Sculptra® treatment. Sculptra® provides for a more healthy and youthful appearance. Our staff will be happy to speak with you about Sculptra® treatment during your visit to our Atlanta area practice with offices in Alpharetta and Dunwoody.
Sculptra® has been used under another name in Europe since 1999, and became FDA approved for the treatment of lipoatrophy in the United States in 2004. The primary ingredient in Sculptra® is polylactic acid, a synthetic substance replicating a natural substance that is created by muscles when a person exercises. Polylactic acid has seen many medical uses over the last two decades. Because it is synthetic, there is not need for allergy testing prior to Sculptra® treatment.
The Sculptra® treatment process begins with a consultation at either of our offices in Alpharetta or Dunwoody, Georgia. During this consultation, our double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Burke Robinson, will help you determine if Sculptra® is right for you and, if it is, what you can expect from your treatment. Sculptra® treatment is carried out through a series of injections. These injections are applied in a pre-determined pattern throughout the treatment area. Sculptra® treatment involves the injection of polylactic acid, which helps to promote new collagen growth in the weeks after treatment. Unlike other dermal fillers, which can last months, Sculptra® treatment at our Atlanta area practice helps our patients achieve results that can last up to two years.
Because Sculptra® prompts the body to produce its own collagen, natural restoration of facial volume can be obtained. This ability to enhance collagen production also means that treatments are very long-lasting, up to two years. After results have subsided, the ingredients in Sculptra® are safely reabsorbed in the body. For those who are seeking long-lasting relief from facial lines and wrinkles, Sculptra® treatment at our Atlanta area practice is many times an excellent solution. For the treatment of lipoatrophy, especially in those with HIV/AIDS, Sculptra® treatment at our offices in Alpharetta and Dunwoody, Georgia can mean enhanced facial volume for increased self-esteem and an improved quality of life.
Dr. Burke Robinson is a national trainer for Sculptra®, teaching other surgeons and physicians about advanced Sculptra® treatments.
