IPL™ Photofacial Treatment at Our Atlanta Area Practice

Intense pulsed light, better known as IPL, can be used for the improvement of several skin conditions as well as for hair removal. This cutting-edge treatment utilizes a special light that is focused onto the skin. This light travels through the skin until it encounters a higher degree of melanin in a highly pigmented area. IPL technology has been harnessed for the focused elimination of acne, rosacea, spots due to sun damage, broken capillaries, birth marks, and hair. Because the pulses of light emitted by the equipment are very short, patients experience little discomfort during the procedure. If you are seeking relief from any of these skin imperfections, the professionals at our Atlanta-area practice can help you determine whether IPL™ Photofacial treatment is right for you.

The technique is simple – a cooling gel is applied to the treatment area, then a handpiece with a cold tip will be placed against your skin. The treatment takes no longer than 30 minutes, but the results are long-lasting.

After your IPL™ Photofacial, the gel will be cleansed from your face and you can return to your normal routine with no downtime. Although dark spots and small blood vessels may at first appear more noticeable, in the next few days they will fade, and a smoother, more even-toned complexion will emerge. At our Atlanta-area practice, we typically recommend five IPL™ Photofacial treatment sessions to achieve the best results. IPL™ Photofacial treatment is performed by our experienced esthetician, Heather, at Visage Skin Care, part of our Alpharetta, Georgia practice. If you would like to learn more about IPL™ Photofacial treatment, our skin care professionals serving Dunwoody, Duluth, Buckhead, Roswell, and the entire Atlanta area can help you determine whether this advanced procedure is right for you.

Laser Skin Resurfacing in the Atlanta Area

Beauty standards change over time, but smooth and unblemished skin has been a fundamental aspect of beauty for centuries. With the advent of laser skin resurfacing, our Atlanta-area practice can now correct for damaged and wrinkled skin that results after age and harsh environmental elements have taken their toll. In laser skin resurfacing, a carbon dioxide laser is passed over wrinkled, lined, and damaged skin to even out pigmentation and create a smoother texture.

In laser skin resurfacing, the CO2 (carbon dioxide) and erbium laser are the two most commonly used technologies to precisely remove the outer layers of damaged skin. Laser skin resurfacing is often used around the eyes and mouth and is also performed on the entire face in patients with hyperpigmentation and facial scars. It has also been an effective treatment for removing pre-cancerous lesions. Often, the procedure is done in conjunction with another cosmetic operation, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.

The CO2 laser is used for the treatment of deeper facial lines and wrinkles, while the erbium laser is used more often for fine to moderately deep wrinkles. Both lasers use a beam of laser energy which vaporizes the outer layers of damaged skin at specific and controlled levels of penetration.

The best candidates for laser skin resurfacing have wrinkles in localized areas, such as near the eyes or mouth. Patients with olive and darker skin tones should note that they face a heightened risk of developing pigmentation changes in their complexions after the resurfacing procedure. Dr. Burke Robinson can evaluate your complexion and gauge the results that you can expect from laser skin resurfacing at a consultation at one of his Atlanta area offices those from Duluth, Alpharetta, Buckhead, Roswell, and across Georgia. Many patients have undergone laser skin resurfacing at our office with beautiful results.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that exfoliates away the dead skin cells on the outermost layer of the skin. This procedure not only brightens the complexion by revealing the younger skin cells beneath, but also removes or diminishes scars and dark spots on the skin. Patients with oily skin often find that, after the removal of these dead skin cells, their skin is less prone to developing acne. For these reasons, microdermabrasion has become popular with those who have various kinds of blemishes on their faces, including acne scars, red spots or dark spots, and/or acne itself. It is most commonly used by patients who simply want a refreshed and glowing complexion.

As a convenient and highly effective skin resurfacing treatment at our Atlanta area practice, microdermabrasion is not painful and there is no downtime associated with it. When the wand used during microdermabrasion is applied to the skin, there may be a tingling sensation, but it is no more disagreeable than the feeling of a cat’s tongue. There may be some redness when treatment in complete, but this fades in a matter of hours and patients are able to return to work, errands, and normal life immediately afterward. Most patients require five to ten visits for optimal results, but each patient's needs are different. At our office in Alpharetta serving patients from Atlanta, Dunwoody, Roswell, and surrounding areas of Georgia, our staff will help you determine the microdermabrasion skin resurfacing treatment regimen that is right for you.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion, not to be confused with microdermabrasion, removes skin imperfections using a high-speed rotating surgical instrument to remove the outer layer of skin. Dermabrasion treatment at our Atlanta area practice may be used in combination with laser skin resurfacing or chemical peels to treat skin to the appropriate depth. At Visage Skin Care at our Alpharetta office serving patients from Dunwoody, Duluth, Buckhead, Roswell, and other areas in and around Atlanta and across Georgia, we are committed to providing our patients with exceptional results. Dermabrasion is also many times used to correct for scarring. Sanding the top layer of skin takes a great amount of skill and aptitude and should be performed by a facial plastic surgeon experienced in skin resurfacing dermabrasion. As a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Burke Robinson is uniquely qualified in the most advanced skin resurfacing techniques.

Chemical Peel

A variety of chemical peels are offered at our practice. Different active agents and strengths are used to treat different problems and levels of skin damage. Chemical peels are provided at our office in Alpharetta by our experienced esthetician, Heather. Heather provides those from across the Atlanta area — including Dunwoody, Duluth, Buckhead, Roswell, and other areas of Georgia — with the latest in chemical peels and other state-of-the-art skin care treatments. To begin the procedure, the skin is first cleansed and then the chemical peel is applied. Some peels may cause a slight stinging sensation, but this feeling is brief. Peel application typically takes no longer than 10 to 15 minutes, though this time frame ultimately depends on the type of chemical peel you opt for under Heather’s guidance. There may be some flaking, redness, or dryness after the chemical peel, but it will gradually fade as your skin becomes accustomed to the treatment.

The Hetter Peel©

When it comes to facial peels, Dr. Burke Robinson and our Atlanta area staff have come full circle — from chemical peels to using lasers and back again. After years of performing chemical facial peels, our office had switched to laser peels “because that's what the public was demanding and the safety of lasers had advanced to a degree where there was very little margin for error,” said Dr. Robinson. With recent modifications of some traditional peel solutions, Dr. Robinson is now able to customize chemical peels to meet patients' specific needs. With these new developments, Dr. Robinson is switching back to using chemicals because they provide more predictable outcomes, cost less than lasers, and most importantly produce better and longer-lasting results. In many cases, Dr. Robinson chooses to use the Hetter Peel© at our Alpharetto and Dunwoody offices near Atlanta, Georgia. Many of our patients from Duluth, Buckhead, Roswell, and surrounding areas in and around Atlanta enjoy the high quality results that can be achieved through Hetter Peel© treatment. When compared to traditional formulas, Hetter Peel© treatment offers greater flexibility in treating certain facial areas with less risk of hypopigmentation.
