DR. ROBINSON: Botox and Dysport both are what we call neurotoxins. And essentially they paralyze muscle. Think of it as your muscle being like the keyhole and the nerve ending being the key. And so when you say frown, the key goes into the keyhole and turns, or in this case the nerve stimulates the muscle to contract. So Dysport or Botox happen to just be the exact right configuration to block the receptor sight in the muscle so the chemical from the nerve cannot stimulate the muscle to contract. And so you, it’s like putting gum in the keyhole. And so once you plug it, you can’t get the muscle to turn. It’s very natural and it breaks back down to normal amino acids and so the product sits in the keyhole and over three months it breaks down and goes away. So you’re actually relaxing that muscle, paralyzing that muscle so you can’t contract. And what’s interesting is patients are always concerned that they think, well I don’t want a toxin in me. But really all drugs are a toxin. You can kill a human with aspirin and you can buy that over the counter. Like any drug, with its correct indication, used by someone who is trained well in it, it’s a wonderful product and can give a phenomenal result. And this is just like any other drug, used properly it’s very rejuvenating. The ideal patient is someone who gets their elevens as they like to call it. Patients say I have my elevens, where you’re getting the vertical lines here from frowning too much. The horizontal lines in the forehead, crow’s feet, and even what we call bunny lines in the office, people who are squinting a lot. A lot of times when people work outside a lot and they’re doing this motion, it can even help with that. And used to be we were doing it on patients who were maybe 40 and over, but now those patients, their kids who are now in their 20’s are coming in and doing it because one of the beauties of Botox in this port is is one of the few things that really prevents aging. So we have patients in their mid to late 20’s who will catch themselves in their rearview mirror frowning or squinting and their like, oh. And then they instantly go, that looks like my mom. So they’ll come in and profylatically [phonetic], they’re doing Dysport or Botox in these areas because they know, they’re very educated and they know if I never really get the crease started, I’ll never have it when I’m not frowning, which is their ultimate goal.
