Wrinkle Relaxers

Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® are used to temporarily relax the wrinkle-causing muscles of the forehead, around the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet) and between the eyebrows to soften fine lines & wrinkles.

Botox® and Dysport® are popular options for patients who have moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, horizontal lines on their forehead, and crow’s feet lines around their eyes. We also want to welcome you to the age of pre-juvenation! The popular trend to start Botox® and Dysport® in your 20’s as a preventative measure to avoid deep lines around the forehead and eyes. Even at a young age, some types of repetitive facial expressions may train certain facial muscles to pull into a crease — similar to the way bending a piece of cardboard repeatedly deepens the fold. By starting Botox® and Dysport® treatments early, you will be able to relax those creases before they sink into your muscle memory, essentially stopping the wrinkles in their tracks.

Recovery & Results

There is very little recovery time involved with cosmetic injectables. You may experience minor swelling and bruising but we provide our patients with pre & post care instructions to minimize these side effects and maximize your treatment results. You can continue to live your life as normal, including wearing makeup, immediately after the treatment. If there is any redness in the treatment area, it typically disappears within 24 hours. Facial lines and creasing will be diminished, and you will be able to see your final results in a few days. Patients should keep in mind that the results are not permanent and continued treatment is required to maintain your results. With Botox® and Dysport®, treatments are repeated every 3-4 months.

More You Should Know About Botox & Dypsort

The following thoughts are meant to help our patients better understand Botox® & Dysport® and the importance of seeking out a reputable and experienced provider.

Not all Botox® & Dysport® injectors are equal — Unfortunately, the provision of these treatments are no longer limited to qualified plastic surgeons and dermatologists. Among those who perform these injections are those who are not equally trained and do not have the same level of knowledge in the area of facial cosmetics. These individuals’ knowledge of facial anatomy, as well as their clinical skills, varies. Today, many physicians, nurses, and other medical and dental providers are performing Botox® & Dysport® injections. We feel it is important to see an experienced provider with knowledge of facial aesthetics for the most effective possible Botox® & Dysport® treatment.

Not all Botox® & Dysport® injections are of equal strength — Botox® & Dysport® are carefully reconstituted (mixed) by the manufacturer, Allergan or Galderma. It is done so through guidelines that outline the use of a specified amount of sterile physiologic sodium water. Many providers sell Botox® & Dysport® at a reduced price by watering down or diluting it with more saline water than specified. This can result in inferior results or results that do not last as long.

Not all Botox® & Dysport® is fresh — At Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery, the Botox® & Dysport® we use is reconstituted and kept on ice, and, due to the volume of injections performed at our Atlanta-area practice, is used within a couple days of its arrival. Once Botox® & Dysport® has been mixed with the saline water it loses its strength. Many providers will keep it for weeks, and therefore use a much less potent product.

Not all Botox® & Dysport® is FDA approved — Only Botox® from Allergan and Dysport® from Galderma, are FDA-approved. Unfortunately, products incorrectly marked as “Botox® & Dysport®” can be purchased from Canada, China, and other countries. These products can be counterfeit and are therefore not FDA-approved. The risks associated with using a counterfeit Botox® & Dysport® products can be great. When a provider purchases counterfeit Botox® & Dysport® from other countries, they save hundreds of dollars but as the patient, you have no assurance of the source, or how it was produced, stored, and shipped. Counterfeit Botox® & Dysport® are often sold under brand names such as BTX-A, Botox, and Botox-A. These bootleg products are illegal and can be contaminated with sugar and other materials that are not intended for human injection. In addition, the specific concentration of the product can be unknown, and as a result, you may receive too strong an injection. This can result in adverse systemic consequences. If the price seems too good to be true, then it probably is. At our Atlanta area practice with offices in Alpharetta and Dunwoody, we, of course, provide our patients with only the highest quality, authentic Botox® & Dysport® injections.
