Despite the fact that most people opt for injectables or other non-invasive procedures to enhance their natural features or to reduce the effects of collagen loss and age gracefully, surgical procedures are beginning to rise in popularity again. One such procedure that’s seen a significant increase in the past few years is the surgical brow lift. Keep reading to learn more about what this procedure can do for you, and why it’s suddenly back in the spotlight.
Brow Lift 101
At Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer an endoscopic brow lift, meaning small incisions are made in the scalp, just past the hairline. From these incisions, Dr. Robinson is able to reposition the brows. This does require the patient to be under sedation, though the procedure typically rarely lasts more than one hour.
An endoscopic brow lift is ideal for returning drooping brows and eyelids to their natural, youthful position, as well as rejuvenating the forehead and sculpting brows toward a preferred shape.
Because the brow lift is still a surgical procedure, it can cause patients discomfort and requires recovery time. Dr. Robinson advises his patients to stay home for a full week post-lift, to ensure adequate rest for the best possible healing results.
Brow Lift Trends
Besides the overall lift that raises the entire brow, another recently popular use of the endoscopic brow lift recently has been what’s known as a “lateral brow lift.” In this procedure the lateral third of the brow, the tail, is lifted, tightening the skin around the eyes and creating a cat-eye effect. This look has been popularized by the slim faces and narrow gazes of celebrity models like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner. It’s a trend that’s recently been recreated, often in and “Runway Model Makeup” and “Plastic Surgery Makeup” tutorials.
The brow lift is, of course, the permanent solution to achieve this aesthetic, which is likely why many plastic surgeons are reporting that patients in their 20s and 30s are opting to skip injectables and other non-invasive options and are requesting surgical lifts as their first brow procedures.
The lateral lift does lend patients toward that trending cat-eye and can help to maintain a youthful appearance around the eyelids and corners of the eye, but doesn’t address as many anti-aging concerns as the overall lift. However, the lateral list has its own pros, as well! Lateral lifts rarely require any tissue to be removed and are therefore minimally disruptive or uncomfortable, and very tolerable for the rest of the face to adjust to the change.
There are often both surgical and non-surgical means to obtain your brow goals, and during your consultation, Dr. Robinson will discuss the full spectrum of your options to help you make an informed decision on how to achieve your desired look.
