Dark circles under the eye can make you look older and more tired than you really feel. Cosmetics are rarely effective in covering up the problem, and you aren’t ready for a surgical procedure. Is there another option? At Robinson Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer an innovative lower-lid liquid lift that effectively refreshes tired eyes without incisions, anesthesia or recovery time.
What is the Lower-Lid Liquid Lift?
The lower-lid liquid lift is a revolutionary treatment performed by Dr. Burke Robinson to minimize the appearance of puffy eyes and dark circles without surgery. Dr. Robinson uses Restylane, a filler to smooth fill in the hollow, tired appearance that often plagues the delicate skin under the eye. The treatment eliminates shadowing that leads to the appearance of dark circles, minimizes the appearance of fine lines and adds volume to refresh the appearance of the eyes.
The cause of dark circles under the eyes can often be attributed unequal reflection of light of the lower eyelid. Everyone has fat in their eye socket and is kept in its place by the elasticity of the lower eyelid skin and muscle. However, over time this elasticity can decrease, allowing this fat to push out of the eye socket. When the fat protrudes past the bony rim of the eye socket, this part of the eyelid is higher than the surrounding lid and therefore reflects light, and the area just below it lies in the shadow creating a “dark circle.” By placing a smooth soft tissue filler in the under eye area, we can effectively reduce the shadowing by creating a more even reflection of light over the entire lower eyelid, resulting in a smoother under eye area that looks more awake and refreshed.
How it Works
A lower-lid liquid lift can be performed by Dr. Robinson right in his office and takes just a few minutes to complete. Patients are usually given a topical anesthetic before the injections are placed, to ensure the comfort of that delicate area during the procedure. There is no downtime after the injectable treatment; patients can return to work and regular activities as soon as the procedure is over.
A lower-lid liquid lift can be done in a fraction of the time required to perform eyelid surgery and the results are immediate and long-lasting. Injections will need to be repeated periodically to maintain results, but patients usually go many months before a follow-up treatment is necessary. Because the procedure can be completed quickly, you can often schedule your appointments over a lunch hour.
While a lower-lid liquid lift is a viable option for some patients, it is not the right choice for everyone. Patients with significant herniation of orbital fat of the lower lid or extensive wrinkling around the eyes will likely find a surgical procedure will produce more satisfying results.
