We’ve all been guilty of a late night (or two!) out on the town, leaving us with prominent dark circles under our eyes due to lack of restful sleep. Aside from lack of sleep, other factors, such as genetics, can impact how prominent dark circles can be on our faces. The result? Many of us look more tired and stressed than we actually feel.

To add on to the feeling of exhaustion and stress, our eyes are some of the first areas to show signs of aging. So, it doesn’t help that one of the most prominent areas of our faces also shows the most eye-catching (pun intended!) signs of aging.

All hope isn’t lost when it comes to looking more awake and youthful. Under-eye fillers are designed to add volume to the undereye area, which often is sagging, dark and/or looks hollow. Are undereye fillers right for you? Here are things to keep in mind.

  • What exactly is an undereye filler?

Take a deep breath: it’s a non-surgical procedure. Mostly containing a base of hyaluronic acid that is injected directly into the under-eye area, undereye fillers aren’t a permanent fix as much as we’d like for them to be. It’s normal to have follow-up procedures every 6-18 months, in order to maintain your new look.

  • What are the benefits of undereye filler?

The most popular reason for using undereye filler is that it makes you appear more youthful and rested. For more specific reasons, undereye filler immediately restores volume under your eyes, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and corrects darkness under your eyes.

  • What does the undereye procedure look like?

It’s super simple, including prep time and recovery. Before your procedure, it’s important to let your practitioner know of any medications you are taking. During your procedure, you may want to consider having numbing cream applied. Then, you’ll receive small injections of hyaluronic acid filler in the undereye area. After the procedure, you should allow 48 hours for recovery as it’s normal to experience mild bruising and swelling. Also, avoid intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours after any type of filler.
