All About Eyes

When the lower half of our faces are covered, we can’t help but obsess over the upper half of our faces.  To enhance our eyes, it’s easy to explore new eye makeup looks. Eye makeup is a temporary solution for brightening our eyes. A lasting solution is a facial procedure.

Wearing masks will continue for a while, so it’s the perfect time to explore long-lasting solutions for your eyes. The eyes are the windows to the soul. Explore our favorite eyes procedures:

BlepharoplastyThe delicate tissue around your eyes is impacted by the aging process. Over time, excess skin can develop above the upper eyelids, making them appear heavy or droopy. Dark or puffy bags can emerge under the lower eyelids. While both conditions are caused primarily by progressive loss of skin elasticity, both also result in your appearing fatigued or stressed. An eyelid surgery lifts and rejuvenates the eye by removing the excess hooding skin of the upper lids and bags of the lower lids, creating a naturally youthful appearance.

In an upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Burke Robinson creates small incisions across the eye crease, which allows access for removal of prolapsed fat, as well as excess muscle and skin.  Fine sutures close the incisions and the eyes are lubricated afterward to promote healing.

In a lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Robinson creates tiny incisions behind the lower eyelids, and tear drop amounts of fat are removed with small surgical forceps, a technique which eliminates visible scarring and requires no sutures.

A good candidate for this procedure is someone with excess fat, muscle, and skin in the upper eyelid area, creating a hooded or drooping look that may make you appear tired and older than you feel.  During your consultation, Dr. Robinson will assess your upper and lower eyelids, and determine of one or a combination of procedures may be the best option for achieving your desired appearance.

Brow lift Rejuvenating the forehead and brow area effectively rejuvenates the upper eye area. Although the brow lift can be done as an isolated procedure, it is commonly performed in combination with blepharoplasty. Together these procedures help provide a more rejuvenated look to the entire upper face and forehead.

Dr. Robinson provides two types of brow lift techniques:

  • Endoscopic Brow Lift – For patients with adequate scalp hair, Dr. Robinson creates several small incisions to the scalp, concealed behind the hairline. The tissue beneath the skin is examined using an endoscope and the images projected onto a video monitor.  Using a plasma blade and specialized instruments, Dr. Robinson accesses the tissue and repositions the brow.
  • Mid-Forehead Lift – For patients with thin hair or are bald, this procedure is performed by making an incision in a natural forehead crease some distance above the eyebrow.  Excess skin and tissue are removed allowing the underlying tissues to be repositioned thus elevating the eyebrows to their proper position, and is closed with non-absorbable sutures.

Both types of brow lift surgery produce excellent results.

Liquid Lift – During this procedure, a combination of injectable facial fillers, such as Restylane® Silk and Restylane® Refyne, are used to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles while restoring volume under the eyes. The injections fill in the tear trough area, which tends to lose volume and become dark and hollow. The result is a refreshed, more youthful look and a visible reduction in eye puffiness or dark circles.
